Having been use to the Save Site As Template for a number of years and using it with teachers to create their own template for their classes, I have noticed a slight bug in 2013. In SharePoint 2013, you do not get the Save Site As Template feature when the Publishing Feature is activated on a site but when you deactivate this feature the link still does not appear and if you navigate to the correct URL for the save option you get the below error. Recently a SharePoint 2010 student asked me to demonstrate saving a custom list as a template and then using this template to create a new list. This blog is to answer that request. As usual I will be doing this from the top level site in a site collection so that any list or library in any site within this site. Download the site template from the solutions gallery to a file. Navigate to the top-level site of your site collection. Click Settings, and then click Site Settings. In the Web Designer Galleries section, click Solutions. If it's necessary to activate the solution, select it, and in the Commands group, click Activate. To solve this problem you will need to install SharePoint Designer 2013 and open the site you have the issue with. Once you have opened the site and at the landing page you will see Site Options in the top Ribbon (last). Click this and you will open a small window which you will see a parameter called ‘SaveSiteAsTempalteEnabled’ and that it’s value is false. Click on Modify and change this to true. When you have done this got back to Site Settings and you will see Save as Site Template now appear and available. Author Posted on Categories, Tags. Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor. I think as usual, the new version of SharePoint 2010 has a lot of problems. the below messege appear in a publushing site (FBA) enabled and when I try to access the pages list or even approve a page of accessing the SiteCollectionImages list and. After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010, I have full crawl and get 'The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )' for mysite and get 'Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has 'Full Read' permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled.' For sharepoint site. The content access account for search is 'db_owner' of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem? HI ALL, I recently migrated an old Sharepoint site from WSS 3.0 to Sharepoint foundation 2010. There were no problems during the upgrade and the stsadm command displayed the message that upgrade completed successfully. However when I am accessing the sub-sites from outside the server, I am able to see the content, but when I go to Site Settings, I get an error 'File not found'. Also the Views for the sub-sites are not working. However on accessing the sub-sites from the Server everything is working fine. Can anyone please help me? Hi We are using sharepoint 2010 for internet facing sites for our big client in healthcare domain. I am using XSLT list view webpart in sharepoint designer 2010 for retrieving contents from sharepoint list & displaying it by using XSLT List view webpart in publishing sites. We are having lot of list in rootsite collection, If i am creating pages by using XSLt list view webpart in root site collection I can access the list,View and Display in Pages by XSLT List view webpart. Now the requirement is i have to access the list in roosite collection(parent site) from subsites. In Sharepoint designer 2010, while i am inserting XSLT list view webpart, i could not find datasource to access the list that exist in rootsite collection(Parent site) from subsite. Below is the the code i am using for accessing the list& view from parent site & creating the pages in parent site by using xslt list view webpart, now i wants to access parent site list from subsite by using XSLT list view webpat in subsite pages. Pls let me know what i have to change in the code level. Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local 'Documents' folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved). (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button) We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file. This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint. I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking 'Save and Send' and then clicking the save button again. At this point word 2010 seems to 'remember' that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening. Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd. Hi, I am currently implementing a Sharepoint 2010 Multi-Tenancy solution. Multi-tenancy is the partitioning of service applications in 2010 to allow data to be separated between web applications or site collections. I am using multi-tenancy to separate data and user profiles between site collections hosted on a single web application. I have partitioned the User Profile Service Application and Proxy using Windows Powershell. The paritioned Proxy Application is then associated with the single web application. I am also using the Sharepoint Foundation Subscription Service Application to subscribe to different site collections within the web application. In this way data and user profiles can be separated. However, the tenant administration site, used to manage each collection, does not allow administrator access to manage the User Profile Service. I receive a standard Sharepoint 'Access Denied' error message. No other errors or details are provided. I have tried assigning different accounts to the tenant administration site but the error still appears. The issue arises when I issue the following SPSite Powershell cmdlet: NEW-SPSite -Owneralias DOMAIN Username -Secondaryowneralias DOMAIN Username. The attributes provided in the Cmdlet above are used to assign tenant site administrators however, the accounts cannot access the User Profile Service. Any ideas or recommendati. I wanted to move an site A ( content included ) from site collection A to site collection B. I saved site A as a site template ( content included ) I uploaded the site template to site collection B's solution gallery. I created Site B on site collection B using this site template. Unfortunately the top links to site A have been preserved causing major confusion to the users. The shared documents document library link and the tasks link both link to Site A! The links to documents within the document library on the other hand are to site B!? Is this a known issue? Is this something that I should have expected to happen? Look forward to hearing other folks experience with this functionality. Thanks and regards, Counie.
